This modest, but charming home overlooks a quiet lake framed by beautiful wetlands and a small mountain backdrop. The house was long overdue for functional and aesthetic updating, most critically in the Kitchen, where Mrs. Staudacher, a gourmet cook, had “made do” for many years in an inadequate and ill-equipped space. She and her husband love to entertain friends and include them in the fun of cooking, so the Kitchen was designed to be a central social space with bar seating, a long island with cooktop and prep sink, and cozy built-in seating for many to gather. Storage and ease of access were also key requirements, so a wealth of cabinetry in a carefully considered layout was paramount. The Dining Room was positioned to be an extension of the Kitchen while still allowing it to have its own personality. Both spaces have an abundance of windows overlooking the lake. On the garden side of the home are the more private family spaces, which were reformulated to significantly improve circulation and connectivity.
