This hideaway surrounded by whispering woodlands and graced with a tranquil trout pond was in need of an update and expansion. The clients enjoy country living and one is an avid fisherman and hunter. Our approach was to embrace a modern lodge aesthetic and to fully connect the interior with the out-of-doors. In particular, we created an expansive window in the Kitchen which previously had none and created a spectacular Family Room with corner-wrapping windows and glass above and below their flat-screen TV so as not to miss the “trout-fish-a-jumpin.” Both the Family Room and Master Bedroom open onto a cozy deck shaded by a perfect crab apple tree. Red oak floors were stained beautifully with a light grey stain and the interior color scheme consisted of warm greys balanced with rustic black light fixtures and hardware. On the exterior, we went with spruce green shingle siding and herringbone board & batten, trim, casings, and columns. A little bit of stone, some brown decking and roof shingles, and some rustic styled light fixtures complete the modern lodge aesthetic. (Photos by Caryn B. Davis)
