Overlooking a pristine salt marsh along Long Island Sound, this charming cape style house was in need of a garage. An arched breezeway gracefully connects the house and garage and frames the lovely view. The breezeway also serves as an exciting gateway between the front and rear yards. The garage blends seamlessly with the house due to its carefully considered scale, proportions, and details. Beyond matching materials and window style, the thoughtful configuration of the roof was critical to enhancing the overall appeal of the house. The asymmetrical design serves to counterbalance the symmetry of the house while also maximizing interior storage and working potential. Fun lighting on the exterior and plenty of natural light on the interior create a pleasurable experience. The value of the house certainly grew immensely with this project. (photos by Jody Dole)
