This home in the rolling woods of North Madison had a central core that was well-articulated, but perimeter spaces that unfortunately did not reflect the same level of design. For this reason, the owners desired a retreat or respite of sorts that provided a higher level of detail and sophistication. We decided to articulate a Zen-like space which also reflected a bit of the New England flavor of the house. We created a cozy niche for the bed and nightstands complete with another sub-niche paneled in differing widths of painted v-groove paneling for texture. His and Her Closets and still another Shared Closet provide plenty of storage capacity. Across from the bed are built-in shelves, drawers, and a window bench providing a beautiful and functional focal point. Discreet lighting casts a warm glow. In the bathroom, a long vanity with His and Her Vessel Sinks, tiled countertop, and expansive mirrors provide a real sense of graciousness. The cabinetry is complete with pull-out laundry hampers, television, and plenty of room for storage. On the opposite side is a well-integrated shower, whirlpool tub, and toilet room complete with radiant heat and glass block windows. Painted v-groove paneling contrasts well with the randomly-sized, stone-like tile, while modern hardware and lighting provide a sophisticated look. A place to get away from it all.
